Notes: From 1866 through 1872 Hugh and Elizabeth had five children in England. During
these years they became acquainted with the Hancock family,
friends and neighbors in the South Molton area of Devon, England. In 1873 Hugh and Elizabeth with their five children and with the Hancock family left Bristol, England, sailed to America on the S.S. Arragon, and arrived in New York on the 9th of May. Hugh and Elizabeth and their children soon made their way to Canada and settled on 32 acres, two miles from the town of Forest, in Lambton County, Ontario. In 1876 daughter Rosa Nickels was born there. In 1877, Thomas Hancock was deeded 32.5 acres in Bosanquet Township, Lambton County, Ontario, by the Canada Company — and the Hancock family settled nearby. In 1885 Hugh's wife Elizabeth passed on. All four of their daughters died relatively young. | ||||||||||||||||
