Notes: In 1873, Frederick Peters and his wife Therasa Erbentraut settled in Ottawa
County, Kansas. In the 1880 U.S. census, F. W. Peters, 37, farmer, born in New York,
and Therasa, 27, keeping house, born in Germany (Prussia), are listed as living in Center
Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Their children were Gertrude, 6, David, 5, Julius, 3, and
Carl, 1, all born in Kansas.
In the 1885 Kansas State census, F. W. Peters, 42, and T. Peters, 32, are enumerated in
Garfield Twp., Ottawa, their long time residence. The children were Girty, 11, Dave,
10, G., 8, Carl, 6, May, 2, and Clara, 1.
On 6 Dec 1892, their oldest daughter, Gertrude, was married to William Henry Haley
in their residence. The 1895 Kansas State census, Garfield Twp., enumerates F. W.
Peters, 52, farmer and Therasa, 42, keeping house, with the children Judes, 18, Carl, 16,
Maybel, 13, Clara, 11, Andy, 8, Dora, 6, Varna, 4, and Etna, 1.
In the 1900 U.S. census, Garfield Twp., Fred Peters, 55, born Jul 1844, owned the farm, free
of mortgage. Theresa, 47, Feb 1853, had had thirteen children, eleven then living.
The children at home were Mabel, Mar 1872, Clara, 16, Apr 1884, Abbie, 12, Aug 1887,
Lavina, 9, Mar 1891, and Edna, 5, Aug 1894, all attending school; and Robert, 2, Jul 1897,
and Harry 1, Nov 1899. Living with the family was Carl Richards, 15, a farm laborer.
Fred died in 1915, and Therasa moved into Minneapolis. In 1920, only her youngest is
living with her. |
