Notes: George and Mattie were married around 1919, and were first found living with
her mother in the state of Washington. By 1926, they were living at 419
South Sixth Street, Alhambra, Los Angeles, California, which became their
family home. The house was built in 1923, and had 1,819 Sq. ft. on a 6,639 Sq.
ft. lot. The 1926 and 1939 Alhambra directories list them at this
address.
In the 1930 USA census, George A. Olson, 47, and Mattie T. Olson, 41, are living at this
address, with all three of their sons. They owned the home, valued at $5,000. and
had a radio set. George owned his own sash and door manufacturing company.
The children were Robert W., 10, attending school, Wilbur, 5, and Wilfred, 5.
In the 1940 USA census, George A. Olson, 57, and Mattie T. Olson, 52, are still
at this address. Their home is valued at $3,000. George, the
manager or yardman for a lumber company, had earned $1,976. in 1939, and had completed
8th grade. Mattie had completed two years of college. The twins, Wilbur G.
and Frank W., age 15, had completed one year of high school.
George died in 1951, and Mattie continued to live in the home through 1954.
In 1957, she is listed at 36a S. Marengo Ave., and in 1964 she is living on Third
Street, next to one of her sons. |
