Notes: In the 1901 Canada census, Alexander Detwiller and his bride Agnes French were
living near Glenwood, Manitoba, located in Twp. 8, Range 20 West 1st Meridian.
Alexander was farming in Manitoba before they married. This is probably their
family farm but it is described in census records differently. In the 1906
Manitoba census, their postal address was Hayfield, which is a short way from
Glenwood. The family's residence is described as being in Sec. 15, Twp. 8,
Range 20, West 1st Meridian. The family had 15 horses, 5 milk cows, 12 other
meat cattle, and 6 pigs.
In the 1911 Canada census, their residence is the same. In the 1916 Manitoba census,
their place of residence is on 1st Street, Souris Town. This is a short distance
from Hayfield. It is unclear, but most probable that all of these census records
pertain to the same farm. Family sources give Hayfield, Manitoba as their place
of residence.
In the 1906 census, E.H. Rimand, age 1, is living with Alexander and Agnes, and is
described as their son. In the 1911 census, is name is now Ernest Detwiller.
Also in 1911, a laborer named Arthur Bird is living with the family. In the 1916
census, it is just Alexander, Agnes and Ernest. According to family records,
there was also an adopted daughter named Doris K. Detwiller, born in 1917.
In the 1921 Canada census, the entire family is together. Ernest is 16, and
Doris is 4 years.
The Canada Voter Lists in 1940 records Alex. Detwiller, farmer, Mrs. Alex. Detwiller, and
Doris Detwiller, spinster, as living in Hayfield, Beresford, Brandon, Manitoba.
