Notes: The story of the Anhorns is told by Fred Anhorn in
The Imperial Review [p. 116-117].
Joseph Anhorn, born in 1882, and Christina Mueller, born in 1880, both in Russia,
were married in 1902, and emmigrated to Canada in December 1902. Joseph
worked for the Canada Pacific Railway for a short time, then homesteaded
near Irvine, Alberta, where their children were born, before moving on to
Saskatchewan. . They had ten children: Emil, Hugo, Margaret, Fred, Don,
Herbert, John, Emma, George, and Gladys.
In the 1916 Saskatchewan census, Joseph, 34, and Christina, 35, were living in the Rural
Municipality of Big Arm, Last Mountain, Saskatchewan. Joseph was a farm
laborer. The children were Emil, 12, Hugo, 10, Fred, 7, Goltove(sp?), 6, and
John, 3 years. In the 1921 Canada census, Joseph was now a farmer, farming on
a different section. The children were Emil, 17, and old enough to farm, Hugo,
14, Fred, 12, Golloff (sp?), 10, and John, 8. The family was identified as Methodist.
