Notes: According to various sources, Randolph Andrus, Jr., was born 14 Jul 1890 in Washington,
Washington, Utah. He went by Dorph his entire life. His parents were Randolph Andrus and
Matilda Sandberg. He graduated from the Southern Branch State Normal School, and received his
teacher's certificate from the University of Utah. Irene H. Jones was born 22 Jul 1889 in Cedar City,
Iron, Utah. Her parents were Uriah Trehame Jones and Mary Alice Higbee. She graduated from
the Southern Branch State Normal School, and received a nursing certificate from the Branch Normal School
in Cedar City.
Dolph and Irene were married 24 Dec 1912 in the St. George L.D.S. Temple, St. George, Washington, Utah.
Marriage records show an additional marriage date of 26 Dec 1912 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake. They lived
in Orderville, Kanarraville, and Bluff, before settling in Cedar City, Utah. Dolph was a teacher and
principal, a Postmaster, a Maxwell car salesman, and tourism promoter.
In the 1920 U.S. census, Dolph Andrus, 29, and his wife Irene Andrus, 30. were living in Cedar City, Iron,
Utah. Dolph was the manager of a flour mill. They had a daughter, Torma Andrus, 5. Also
living in the household was Stanley S. Ivans, 28, a farm superintendant.
In the 1930 U.S. census, Cedar City, Dolph Andrus*, 39, and his wife, Irene, 40, were enumerated in the
household of Mary A. Jones, 67. Mary was the mother of Irene. Mary owned the house, located
at 246 So. 3rd. West, valued at $10,000. Dolph was a house carpenter. Dolph and Irene's children were
Torma, 16, and Quentin, 10. Also in the household were two other grandchildren of Mary - Beverly
J. Andrus, 7, and Berwin Andrus, 1. *Ancestry.com indexes the family as Andress.
The family is shown at left on a trip to California in 1941.
Dolph was the general contractor for the Parowan High School Building, and eventually became a licensed
architect. He was the Chief Architect for the FHA in Salt Lake City, and worked in the LDS Church
Architect Office.
Irene died 25 Dec 1980 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. Dolph died 8 Feb 1981 in Salt Lake City.
They are buried in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. |
