Utah. His parents were George Albert Zabriskie and Anna Christinea Jensen. Violet Harding
was born 24 Mar 1890 in Provo, Utah, Utah. Her parents were Jesse E. Harding and Mary Emma Scott.
John, 20, and Violet, 21, were married 4 Jan 1911 in Vineyard, Utah, Utah. They had a family of
five children.
In the 1920 U.S. census, Jon Jabriska, 28, and his wife Violet Jabriska, 29, were living on Manoe Sugar Factory
State Road in Monroe, Sevier, Utah. Jon was a farm laborer and they were renting their homeJohn Zabriski.
Their children were Grant J., 8, attending school, Dona, 6, and Merrill, 4.
In the 1930 U.S. census, John Jabriski, 39, and his wife Violet Zabriski, 39, were still living in Monroe, Sevier,
Utah. John was a traveling salesman ["salesman, commercial traveler]. The family was renting their
home for $12. Their children were Grant, 18, Dona, 17, Merrell, 15, and Shirley, 6, all attending school;
and J. Roland, 9 months. They had a boarder, Max Evans, 18, a farm hand.
In the 1935 Provo, Utah, City Directory, John and his wife Violet are listed living in Spanish Fork.
John was in insurance. The 1940 U.S. census also gives their 1935 residence as Spanish Fork, Utah, Utah.
In the 1940 U.S. census, John P. Zabriskie, 49, and his wife Violet, 50, were living at 185 4th West, Provo,
Utah, Utah. They were renting their home for $20. John had completed 8th grade and was a life
insurance salesman, working 40 hours a week. Violet had completed two years of high school and was an
attendant at the [Utah] State Hospital, working 48 hours a week. Three of their children were still
at home. Merrel, 24, had completed four years of high school and was working 28 hours a week as a
produce truck driver. Shirley, 15, had completed one year of high school; and Bob Roland, 11, had completed
fourth grade.
The Provo, Utah, City Directories list John and Violet at various Provo, Utah addresses through the
years. These include 266 S 9th West (1939); 185 S 4th East (1941); 276 S 4th West (1944); and finally
466 S 100 West (1946 - 1959). John worked as a salesman (1939 - 1941); a clerk for Union Pacific (1944);
an insurance agent (1946); and as a dispatcher for Geneva Steel Co. and U.S. Steel (1950 - 1958).
Violet worked as an attendant at the Utah State Hospital, Provo, from 1939 through 1955.
John died 11 Jan 1965 in Provo, and was buried in the Provo City Cemetery, Provo,
on 15 Jan 1965. Violet died 16 Mar 1977, and was buried with her husband on 19 March 1977. |
