Notes: According to family records, Mahonri Moriancumer Bishop was born 25 Nov 1848 in Mount Pisgah,
Pottawattamie, Iowa. His parents were William Henry Bishop and Eliza Ann Pratt. Jannett Brunson
was born 24 Feb 1861 in Fillmore, Millard, Utah. Her parents were Lewis Brunson and Catherine Keaton
Carling. Mahonri and Jannett were married 15 Jun 1882 in the L.D.S. Endowment House, Salt Lake City,
Salt Lake, Utah. They had a family of nine children.
Mahonri was a polygamist, whose first wife was Mary Amanda Gibbs. They also had a family of nine
children.
Mahonri and Jannett's children were Lewis Moriancumer, born 1883 in Deseret, Millard, died by
drowning in 1891; John Avery, born 1885 in Deseret; Edwin Francis, born 1887 in Escalante, Garfield;
Nelson Monroe, born 1889 in Deseret, died 1891; Don Taylor, born 1892 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake;
Gladys Janett, born 1894 in Hinckley, Millard; and Heber Grant, born 1895 in Hinckley.
In the 1900 U.S. census, Mahonri M. Bishop, 51, and his wife Jennett, 39, were living in Deseret, Millard,
Utah. Mahonri was a farmer who owned the farm free of mortgage. Jennett had had seven children,
five of them then living. The children were Avery J., 14, Edwin G. 12, Ivar G., 8, Gladys J., 6,
and Heber E., 3. The older three attended school. Clark Hinckley was born in 1901, and Joseph
Layton was born in 1904, both in Hinckley, Millard.
In the 1910 U.S. census, Mahonri B. Bishop, 61, and his wife Janett Bishop, 49, were living in Hinckley, Millard,
Utah. Mahonri was a general farmer who owned his farm free of mortgage. Married for 28 years,
Janett had had nine children, seven of them then living. The children at home were Edwin F., 22,
Dan T., 18, Gladys, 15, Heber, 14, Clark, 9, and Joseph L., 5. The Edwin, Dan and Heber were working on
the home farm, and Gladys, Heber and Clark were attending school.
Mahonri M. Bishop died 22 Jul 1910 in Hinckley, Millard, Utah. Cause of death was vascular disease of
the heart. He was buried 24 Jul 1910 in the Hinckley City Cemetery,
Hinckley. Jannett B. Bishop died 21 Dec 1934 in Sutherland, Millard, Utah. Cause of death
peritonitis following an attack of appendicitis. Funeral services were held 23 Dec 1934, and she was
buried in the Hinckley Cemetery. |
