Notes: According to family sources, John Alonzo Pitt Ahlstrom was born 19 Aug 1885
in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. His parents were Charles Magnus Olasson Ahlstrom and Hannah
Pitt. Minerva Elizabeth Nielsen was born 23 Jan 1888 in Washington, Washington, Utah.
Alonzo Pitt Ahlstrom, 22, married Minerva Elizabeth Neilson, 20, on 23 Jan 1908 in Washington,
Washington, Utah. They had a family of six children, all born in Cedar City, Iron, Utah.
In the 1910 U.S. census, Alonzo J. Ahlstrom, 25, and his wife Minerva Ahlstrom, 22, were living
on First East Street in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. Alonzo was a farmer, farming on his own
account on their rented farm. They had a daughter Grace, age 1½.
On 10 Dec 1915, the Iron County Record reported that Alonzo Ahlstrom was delinquent
in his taxes in the amount of $2.12 on SE¼ SE¼ sec 28. Tp 36 S., R. 10 W;
$4.24 on E½ NE¼ sec 33. Tp 36 S., R. 10 W; and $2.12 on NW¼ NW¼
sec 34. Tp 36 S., R. 10 W.
In the 1920 U.S. census, Alonzo P. Ahlstrom, 34, and his wife Minerva Ahlstrom, 33, were living
on Third West Street in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. Alonzo was a general farmer, and they
owned the farm with a mortgage. The children were Grace, 11, Leah, 9, Charles M., 7,
June, 5, and Vera 2. The oldest two daughters attended school.
In the 1930 U.S. census, Alonzo Ahlstrom, 43, and his wife Minerva N Ahlstrom, 42, were living
at 149 South 1st West in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. They owned their home, not on a farm
but did not have a radio set. Alonzo was a foreman for an institutional farm. The
children at home were Charles, 17, a farm laborer, Junior, 15, Vera 11, and Mckay, 9. All
four children attended school.
In the 1940 U.S. census, Alonzo P. Ahlstrom, 53, and his wife Minerva N. Ahlstrom, 51, were
living at 191 South 1st East in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. They owned their residence,
valued at $2,500. Alonzo had completed 6th grade, was a night watchman for the city
police department, and earned $1,272 in the prior year. Minerva had completed 8th
grade. The children at home were Charles, 27, a lumber truck driver; June, 28, a farmer;
and McKay, 19, an automobile repairman. All of the boys had completed four years of
high school.
In April 1942 when Alonzo Pitt Ahlstrom registered for the World War II "old man's registration",
he and his wife Minerva were living at 191 S. 1st E, Cedar City, Iron, Utah. He was a
policeman for the Cedar City Corp. He was described as being 6'1", 180 lbs., with gray
eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion.
Minerva Neilson Ahlstrom died 15 Dec 1942 in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. She was buried in the
Cedar City Cemetery, Cedar City, Utah. Alonzo Pitt Ahlstrom died 27 Mar 1955 in Barstow,
San Bernardino, California. He is buried with his wife in the Cedar City Cemetery.
