Notes: According to family sources, John Ungricht was born 18 Oct 1884 in Murray,
Salt Lake, Utah. His parents were Wilhelm Friedrich Ungricht and Anna Bachofner.
Lillie Edna Arrowsmith was born 10 Sep 1886 in Provo, Utah, Utah. Her parents were
Josiah Thomas Arrowsmith and Magdalena Moser. John Ungricht, 21, married
Lillie E. Arrowsmith, 22, on 20 Dec 1905 in Price, Carbon, Utah They had a family of
six children, all born in Sunnyside, Carbon, Utah.
In the 1910 U.S. census, John Ungricht, 24, and his wife Lillie E. Ungricht, 25, were renting
their home in Sunnyside, Carbon, Utah. John was an electrical engineer in a coal mine.
Their children were Lillie M., 3, and John W., 2. In Sep 1918, John Ungricht, 33, a
resident of Sunnyside, registered for the World War I Draft. He was working for the Utah
Fuel Company, owner of the Sunnyside coal mine. He was described as being of medium
height and build with gray eyes and brown hair
In the 1920 U.S. census, John Ungricht, 34, and his wife Lily E. Ungricht, 33, were renting their
home in Sunnyside, Carbon, Utah. John was described as a miner in a coal mine. Their
children were May L., 13, John W., 11, Samuel L., 6, Herbert, 2, and an unnamed baby daughter,
less than 1 month old. One daughter, born in 1911 had died in 1912. The older
three children attended school.
In the 1930 U.S. census, John Ungricht, 44, and his wife Lillie E. Ungricht, 42, were living at
Rolapp, Carbon, Utah. [The Rolapp Mine was 38 miles north west of Sunnyside, Utah.]
They were renting their home for $20.00 per month, and had a radio set. John was a mine
foreman for the coal mine. The children at home were Lillie May, 22, Vern, 16, Herbert,
12, and Merlene, 10. The younger three children attended school.
About 1934, the family moved to the Mill Creek area, just south of Salt Lake City. In the
1940 U.S. census, John Ungricht, 55, and his wife Lillie Ungricht, 53, were living at
3575 So. 27th East St., East Mill Creek (unincorporated) , Salt Lake, Utah. They owned
their home, valued at $3,000. John was a coal miner, had completed 8 years of school, and
had earned $1,100. in the prior year. Lillie had completed 4 years of high school.
The children at home were May, 32, 4 years of high school; Herbert, 22, 5 years of college; and
Merlene, 19, 2 years of college. Herbert was an attendant at a gas station, and had
earned $500. in the prior year. Both Herbert and Merlene attended school. Enumerated
next door at 3567 So. 27th East St., was their son S. LaVerne Ungricht, 27, and his wife
Virginia Ungricht, 21.
Beginning in 1935, John Ungricht and his wife Lillie are listed in Salt Lake City Directories
as living at 3575 S. 27th East St. John is listed in various years as a miner, laborer,
and in 1944 as miner foreman. In 1946 and thereafter, his occupation when listed is in
poultry.
Lillie Arrowsmith Ungricht, 63, died 22 May 1950 at the L.D.S. Hospital, Salt Lake City,
Salt Lake, Utah. Cause of death was Atherosclerosis. Her husband continued to live
in their residence. John Ungricht, 77, died 6 Oct 1962 in the L.D.S. Hospital, Salt Lake
City, Salt Lake, Utah. Cause of death was Cerebral Thrombosis. They are buried in
the Murray City Cemetery, Murray, Salt Lake, Utah. |
