Notes: According to family sources, Frank Elliott Carrel was born 24 Jun 1878 in
Selma, Dallas, Alabama. His parents were Alexander Stillman Carrel and Sarah Hawkins
Elliott. He was the fifth of seven children. Myrtle Cox (also known as Myrtie)
was born 30 November 1883 in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama. Her parents were Ernest
T. Cox and Josephine Bonner. She had a younger brother. Frank Elliott Carrel, 21, married Myrtle Cox, 18, on 8 Apr 1903 in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama. They had a family of three children. In the 1910 U.S. census, Frank E. Carrel, 32, and his wife Murtle Carrel, 26, were living at 209 5th Street North in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama. Frank was a bookkeeper for a cotton company. They were renting their house. Their children were Dorothy V., 6, and Frank E., Jr., 3. In Sep 1918 when Frank Elliott Carrel, 40, registered for the World War I draft, he and Myrtie were living at 712 N. 21st St., Birmingham, Alabama. Frank was a coal dealer for the Wittichen Coal Co. He was described as being of medium height and build with gray eyes and black hair. In the 1920 U.S. census, Frank E. Carrel, 41, and his wife Myrtle C. Carrel, 36, were still at 712 N. 21st St., Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama. They were actually lodgers with Ernest Turner, 46, his wife Willie E. Turner, 37, and their son Jessie E. Turner, 17. Frank was the secretary for a coal company. Myrtle was the manager for a hat shop. Their children were Dorothy V., 16, no occupation, and Frank E., Jr., 13, attending school. Their daughter Dorothy V. Carrel, 16, married Leonard B. Grefsing, 21, on 25 Aug 1920 in Irondale, Jefferson, Alabama. According to the U.S. City Directories, Frank and Myrtle moved often during their years in Birmingham, Alabama. Frank held positions as bookkeeper, cashier, secretary and manager for various companies, including R. McConnell & Co., Birmingham Oil Co, Buckeye Cotton Oil Co., Wittichen Coal & Transfer Co., The Commercial Exchange, and Graham Realty & Insurance Co. In the 1930 U.S. census, Frank E. Carrel, 51, and his wife Myrtle Carrel, 46, were living at 105 Acton Ave., Homewood, Jefferson, Alabama. They owned their home, valued at $6,000. and had a radio set. Frank was an accountant for a bank. Their daughter Dorothy Firth, 26, was now married to Vernon Firth, 27, a superintendant (of something?) for a hotel. Their son Frank E. Carrel, 23, was a claim's adjuster for automobile insurance. They also had a young daughter Myrtle Jean, 6. Also in the household was Josephine Cox, 67, a widow and mother of Myrtle. According to the U.S. City Directories, Frank and Myrtle moved to Pensacola Florida about 1931, and Dallas, Texas about 1932. Frank's occupation was listed simply as Auditor. In the 1940 U.S. census, Frank Carrel, 61, and his wife Myrtle Carrel, 56, were living at 1922 North West 47th Terrace, Dade County, Florida. They owned their home valued at $3,600. Frank had completed 6 years of school, and Myrtle 8. [Incorrect] No occupations were listed. Their daughter Jeanne, 16, had completed 3 years of high school. Josephine Cox, 76, Myrtle's mother, had completed 4 years of high school. Boarding in the household was Orrille Price, 36, an engineer with the city building department, and his wife Lucille Price, 38. For several years their address was 379 NE 86th St. (EIP). Then in the 1945 Florida State Census, Frank E. Carrel, 67, and Myrtie C. Carrel, 61, were living at 217 N W. 17th Ct., Precinct 66, Dade County, Florida. Frank was an auditor with a college education. Myrtie was a housewife with a college education. Their daughter Jeanne, 21, was a clerk with a high school education. In February 1949, the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Their residence was listed at 1404 4th E, Salt Lake City, Utah. Frank and Myrtle were converts to the LDS Church, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Frank Elliott Carrell, at age 79, died 5 Jan 1958 at home at 1404 S. 4th East St., Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. Cause of death was a coronary occlusion due to chronic myocarditis with cardio vascular hypertension. At the time of his death he was a retired certified public accountant. He was buried 8 Jan 1958 in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah. Myrtle Cox Carre, at age 81, died 30 Apr 1965 of natural causes incident to age at the home of her daughter Veatrice Stewart in Pleasant Grove, Utah, Utah. Funeral services were held Monday, 3 May 1965 at Our Chapel of Memory Mortuary, Provo, Utah. She was buried in the Timpanogos Memorial Gardens, Orem, Utah. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
