Notes: According to family sources, Fred Ross Smith, Jr., was born 5 Mar 1898 in
Tillamook, Tillamook, Oregon. His parents were Fred Ross Smith and Lillian Elizabeth
Hardie. Fred Jr. served in the U.S. Navy during World War I, from 28 Jun 1917 to
8 Feb 1919. Fred R. Smith, 24, married Mable C. Peterson, 23, on 18 Mar 1922 in
El Paso, Texas. Mable Catherine Peterson was born 26 Feb 1889 in Victor, Teller,
Colorado. Her parents were Gus Peterson and Augusta Johnson.
In the 1930 U.S. census, Fred R. Smith, 32, and his wife Mabel C. Smith, 31, were living at
5104 Washington Street, Denver, Denver, Colorado. Fred was a mill wright for the Morse
Brothers Machinery & Supply Co. They were renting their residence for $20. per month.
Their children were Fred R., 6, born in New Mexico, and Richard R., 3, born in Colorado.
In the 1940 U.S. census, Fred R. Smith, 42, amd Mabel Smith, 41, were living at 1444 Tamarac,
Denver, Denver, Colorado. They owned their residence, valued at $3,000. Fred had
completed two years of college, and was now a foreman for the Morse Brothers Machinery &
Supply Co. He had earned $2680. in 1939. Mabel had completed three years
of college. Their children were Fred Jr., 16, one year of high school completed, Richard.
13, 6th grade completed, and Charles, 9, 3rd grade completed.
In the U.S. World War II Draft Cards for Young Men, Fred Ross Smith was working for Morse
Bros. Mach. and was described as being 178 lbs, 6 ft., with ruddy complexion, blue eyes and
brown hair. His son Fred Ross Smith was a Division Supt. for Western Electric Co.
[L.W. Sykes] in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was described a being 158 lbs., 5'11", with a
light complexion, blue eyes and blond hair.
Fred and Mable moved to Globe, Gila, Arizona in 1955. Fred was employed by
Inspiration Consolidated Copper Co. as a master mechanic. Mable was a member
of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Pythian Sisters.
Fred R. Smith, Jr., 86, died 8 Jul 1984 at Valley Lutheran Hospital, Mesa, Arizona.
Mable C. Smith, 87, died 12 Aug 1986 in Apache Junction, Maricopa/Pinal, Arizona.
Palmer Globe Mortuary, Globe, Arizona, was in charge of arrangements, but their burial
site is unknown. |
