Notes: Nielsine Marie Miller was born 20 Aug 1897 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. She was
the first of three children born to Hans Nielsen and Kathrine Miller. In
later documents she is referred to as Nellie or Nelly. She was christened 3 Oct 1897
at St. Stephen's Danish Lutheran Church, Perth Amboy. Her brother
Hans August was born in 1900, where the U.S. census taker found the family living at
192 Hall Street in Perth Amboy. Her sister Dorothy was born in 1902.
Her father spent his life working in the dairy industry, first as a milkman then as
a milk retailer. In the 1910 U.S. census, her cousin Alfred Peter Miller was living with the family, driving a milk truck. The family was living at 401 Hall Street, Perth Amboy. In the 1920 U.S. census, the family was still living at 401 Hall Street. Nellie married Waldemar Romeis Hoyer about 1923, probably in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Waldemar was a mechanical engineer. Their son Vincent was born 13 Dec 1924 in Metuchen, New Jersey. In the 1930 U.S. census, the family was living at 141 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen. In 1930 and again in 1932, the family traveled to Denmark, presumably to visit relatives. They returned both times on the Frederik VIII. In the 1940 U.S. census, Nellie and Waldemar were still living at the 141 Amboy Avenue address, and Waldemar was listed as a mechanical engineer. Their home had a $10,000. value, and Waldemar had earned $4,425. in 1939. Nellie had completed 4 years of high school. Their son Vincent was 15 years, and they had a daughter, age 5. Nellie died in 1960, and is buried in the Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
