Notes: Harriet Elisabeth Baldwin was probably born 26 Jan 1843.
The various sources give a wide range of dates for Harriet's birth, and this
is the best conclusion reached. Her parents were George and Deborah
Baldwin. In the 1850 U.S. census, she was living with her parents and younger brother,
Daniel Webster, in the North Ward of Newark, Essex, New Jersey. Mary
Baldwin, her grandmother, was living with them. In addition,
James and Margaret Collerd, an older couple, were boarders in the home. By the 1860 U.S. census, Harriet's family, including grandmother, had moved to Caldwell, Essex, New Jersey. In 1866 or 1867, probably in Caldwell, Harriet married James W. Jacobus, a cigar maker. Their first daughter, Ida Louise, was born 4 Feb 1870. In the 1870 U.S. census, three families were living in the same household. This included her parents, George and Deborah Baldwin, and her brother Daniel, and his wife Evelena. Harriet and James' second daughter, Ella May, was born 16 Aug 1875. In the 1880 U.S. census, the family was living by themselves in the 2nd Election District of Caldwell Twp. Ida Louise died 11 Jul 1896, and is buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, New Jersey. In the 1900 U.S. census, Harriet, James and daughter Ella May were still living in Caldwell. Her father, George Baldwin, now widowed, was living with them. He died 20 Mar 1906, and is buried in the Prospect Hill cemetery. Ella May married in 1906, and in the 1910 U.S. census, Harriet and James were living on Westville Avenue in West Caldwell. They owned their home with a mortgage on it. Harriet died 23 Dec 1916, presumably in West Caldwell, and is buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, Essex, New Jersey. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
