Notes: Vernon Albert Carr was born 4 April 1886 in Iowa. According to his marriage record, his parents were Ira A. Carr and Ella Douglas. According to the census records, his father had been born in Ohio, and his mother, Mary E., in Illinois. In the 1900 USA census, his family, which included a sister, Mildred, was living in Alhambra, San Gabriel Township, Los Angeles, California. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Notes: Vernon married Lillian Mae Olson on 16 Jun 1909 in Alhambra. In the 1910 USA
census, they were living on Garfield Avenue, Alhambra. He was a fruit
rancher. Their daughter, Evelyn Mary, was born 3 Oct 1910. Their son
James Douglas was born 11 Oct 1914. In June 1917 when Vernon registered for
the World War draft, they were living at 1611 W. Broadway, Glendale, California.
According to Donald Olson, they had a chicken ranch.
Vernon, at age 30, was described as being tall and slender, with gray eyes and dark
brown hair. He listed himself as a farmer. In the 1920 USA census, Vernon and his wife had three children, and were living on Cypress Avenus in Covina, Los Angeles County. By the 1930 USA census, the family was living in Little Rock, out in the Antelope Valley. Here they established a pear and peach ranch in the dessert. In the 1940 USA census, Vernon was listed as a rancher. Their house was owned, with a value of $1,500. He had had one year of college. He and Lillian were sharing the house with their daughter Evelyn and son-in-law Willard Sinclair. Their granddaughter was 5 years old. On 1 Oct 1940, Vernon and his wife Lillian crossed back into the United States at Blaine, Washington after a one day trip to Canada. Vernon died 26 Sep 1947 in Little rock, Los Angeles, California.
