Notes:  William Michael Paintner was born 20 Sep 1909 in Helena Twp., Griggs, North Dakota.  He was the twelveth child of George Painter and Rose (Rosa) Gartman.  In the 1910 U.S. census, the family was living in Helena Twp., Griggs.  His father was a farmer.  His older sisters and brothers were Mary, Theresia, Joseph, Ludvig, George, Anton, Robert, John, and Fred.  Herbert, a twin to Robert, had died early. In the 1920 U.S. census, William's two sisters had left the home, and his brothers Joseph, Ludwig, and George, were working on the family farm.  His other brothers were Antoni 17, Robert, Charles, John, and Fredrick.  Two younger brothers, twins Lawrence and Clarence, had been added to the family. William's mother Rosa died 16 Oct 1922, and in the 1930 U.S. census his father George was a widower.  Fred, William, and Clarence were working on the farm.  The household included Alice Holter Paintner, the wife of Fred.  Also in the household was Gunda Holter, Alice's mother, and two brothers. William married Lenore Helen Detwiller on 29 Jun 1938 in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jesse, Griggs, North Dakota.  In the 1940 U.S. census, William and Lenore were living in Ball Hills Twp., Griggs, North Dakota.  William, 30, was a farmer, and had an eighth grade education.  Lenore, 21, had had four years of high school.  Their daughter Barbara was 6 months old. William and Lenore had four more children, all sons.  William died 13 Aug 2007, in the Villa Maria Nursing home, Fargo, Cass, North Dakota.  He is buried in the St. George Cemetery, Cooperstown, Griggs, North Dakota.
