Notes: Ida M. Haley was born 24 July 1896 in Minneapolis, Ottawa, Kansas. She was the
oldest daughter of William Henry Haley and Gertrude Ida Peters. Her sister Luela Mabel
was born in 1900. In the 1900 U.S. census, the family was living in Blaine Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Her father William was a farmer, renting the land he farmed. By the 1905 Kansas census, the family had moved to the Garfield Township. Her father now owned the land he was farming, with a mortgage. He died 15 Aug 1909 from injuries caused by a buggy accident. Ida's mother Gertrude moved her daughters into the nearby town of Minneapolis. In the 1910 U.S. census, Gertrude is listed as widowed, living with her two daughters, Ida, 14, and Mabel, 9. At the age of 36, she had her own income, and the house was owned free of mortgage. They had a roomer by the name of Ethel Holden, 26, who was a public school teacher. In the 1915 Kansas census, Ida's mother Gertrude, 40, was listed as a housekeeper and Ida, now 19, was a teacher. Her sister Mabel was in school. Ida married Fredrick Carl Gans (Fred) on 30 Apr 1918 in Minneapolis, Ottawa, Kansas. In the 1920 U.S. census, Ida and Fred were living in Buckeye Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Fred was a general farmer, and they owned their own farm. By the 1925 Kansas State census, they had two daughters, Mary and Helen. In the 1930 U.S. census the value of the farm was $9,505. and the family owned a radio. By the 1940 U.S. census, two more children had been added to the family, Dale and a daughter. Ida had completed four years of high school. At some point in time, Ida and Fred moved to New Cambria, Saline, Kansas. Ida died 20 Jul 1975 in Salina, Saline, Kansas. Fred died in 1988. Their last residence was in New Cambria. They are buried together in the Greenville Cemetery, Niles, Kansas. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
