Notes:  Lorentz was born in Horten, Norway; his parents are unknown.  On 28 Mar 1914, he sailed from Bergen on the S.S. Bergensfjord, arriving in the Port of New York on 9 Apr 1914.  He settled in Kearny, Hudson, New Jersey.  In the 1920 U.S. census, Lorentz is found boarding in the home of Elsie Mitchell, a widow who had a young daughter, and other boarders.  He was a machinist for the railroad.

About 1921, Lorentz married Ida Wilhelmina Pearson, whose parents had immigrated from Sweden.  Their son Lawrence was born 30 Jul 1923 in Kearny.  In the 1930 U.S. census, the family was living at 12 Schuyler Court in Kearny.  Lorentz was working as a machinist in the celluloid industry.  This probably meant he was working for DuPont, which was located on Schuyler Avenue in Kearny.

In the 1940 U.S. census, the family was still living at Schulyer (Avenue).  Lorentz was a machinist foreman in the Celluloid industry, and had earned $1,800, the previous year.  He had completed 6th grade, and was a naturalized citizen.  Their son Lawrence graduated from Kearny High School in 1941.

Lorentz registered for the World War II draft on 26 Apr 1942.  This was the Fourth registration, called the "old man's registration", for men between the ages of 45 and 64 years old.  He and Ida still lived at 12 Schuyler Court, and he was employed by E.I. DuPont.  He was described as 5'9" tall, 178 lbs., with blue eyes, blond hair, and a ruddy complexion.

Lorentz died in October 1979 in Kearny, New Jersey.  It is not known where he is buried.
