Notes: Francis Clemons Walker (Frank) and Elizabeth Staheli were married by Erastus Snow on
18 Apr 1870 in Santa Clara, Utah. The following day they left for Salt Lake City to
receive their endowments. [3 May 1870] They returned to make their home in
Pine Valley, Washington, Utah, where they were enumerated in the 1870 U.S. census.
Their first son Francis Clemons was born 20 Jan 1871. They returned to Santa
Clara in the fall of 1872, and moved to Spring Valley, Lincoln, Nevada in 1873.
Their first daughter Mary Elizabeth was born 25 Nov 1872, and died two days later.
She is buried in the Spring Valley Cemetery. Wilhelmina Barbara was born 18 Oct 1873, and George Henry was born 21 Nov 1875. In the spring of 1876, Frank and Elizabeth moved to Desert Springs, Nevada, and ran the mail station. It was a stopping place for travelers going between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. They returned to Spring Valley, where Annie Sophia was born 7 Feb 1878, and Joseph Antone on 16 May 1880. They were enumerated in the 1880 U.S. census here. Frank was listed as a farmer; he also had a small herd of cattle. Elizabeth's youngest sister Barbara Staheli was living with them as a servant. Another sister Mary was also living in Spring Valley with her husband Hans Olson, and three children. Frank and Elizabeth had four more daughters in Spring Valley. Emma Rosina was born 21 Sep 1882, Lemira Louisa on 7 Feb 1885, Laura Barbara on 28 Mar 1888, and Clara May on 7 Apr 1890. In the spring of 1892 the children came down with diptheria. Emma, age 10 years, died 5 Jun 1892, and Joseph, age 12 years, died 30 Jun 1892. Both are buried in a little cemetery by the side of the road in Ursine, Nevada. It is now known as the Hammond Cemetery. Disheartened, Frank and Elizabeth left Nevada 30 Nov 1892, and moved to Hinckley, Millard, Utah. Their party included two sons, five daughters, her brother George Staheli, two four-horse teams, and some cattle. They settled on a 200 acre farm, with 25 acres in alfalfa. Their first house was a two room log cabin. Their last son John Karl was born 3 Jul 1893, but died 13 Mar 1894 before a year old. Frank built a large nine-room brick house for the family. On 10 Apr 1895, their oldest son Frank married Harriet Wadsworth. On 5 Oct 1898, Wilhelmina married Thomas Hinton, and on 30 Nov 1898, their son George married Alice Stout. In the 1900 U.S. census, their household included George, his wife and daughter Rela, and their daughters Annie, Lemira, Laura and Clara. Also included was an adopted son, Jacob Felix, age 13 years, who had been born in Switzerland. Annie married Niels Alma Peterson on 10 Oct 1900. During the Summer of 1907, Frank was injured while unloading wood, suffering a crushed chest. Also that summer, on 28 Aug 1907, Lemira married John Bishop. Frank died 24 Oct 1907, from what was described as a leakage of the heart. Their daughter Laura was married 18 Dec 1907 to George Robison. Following the death of Frank, Elizabeth moved into town with her youngest daughter Clara. Here they are found in the 1910 U.S. census. Clara was a school teacher; she married George Stewart on 3 Oct 1912. Elizabeth lived on to 10 Dec 1939. Both she and Frank are buried in the Hinckley Cemetery, Hinckley, Millard, Utah. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
