Notes: Joseph Antone Walker was born 17 Mar 1880* in Spring Valley, Lincoln, Nevada.
He was the sixth child of Francis Clemons Walker, Sr., and Elizabeth Staheli. He had an older brother,
Francis Clemons, Jr., born in 1871, a sister Mary Elizabeth, born in 1872, who died two days later, a
sister Wilhelmina Barbara, born in 1873, a brother George Henry, born in 1875, and a sister Annie Sophia,
born in 1878. In the 1880 U.S. census Joseph's family was enumerated in Spring Valley, Lincoln, Nevada. His father Frank was listed as a farmer; he also had a small herd of cattle. The children were Frank C., 9, Wilhelmina, 6, George H., 4, Anna, 2, and Joseph, 1 month. His mother Elizabeth's youngest sister, his aunt, Barbara Staheli, 18, was living with them as a servant. Another aunt, Mary Staheli Olson, was living in Spring Valley with her husband Hans Olson, and three children. Joseph had four more sisters born in Spring Valley, Nevada. These were Emma Rosina in 1882, Lemira Louisa in 1885, Laura Barbara in 1888, and Clara May in 1890. In the spring of 1892 the children came down with diptheria. His sister Emma, age 10, died 5 Jun 1892. Joseph, age 12, died 30 Jun 1892. They were buried in the Ursine Cemetery, Ursine (Eagle Valley), Nevada. The cemetery is now known as the Hollinger-Hammond Cemetery or just the Hammond Cemetery. *Source No. 82, a Family Group Sheet, gives 16 May 1880 as Joseph's birthdate. This is very likely, as he is listed in the 1880 U.S. Census taken 21 June 1880 as one month old. A family group sheet in Source No. 1732 gives a 17 Mar 1880 birthdate. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
