Richard Dion Romandy Boarding Date: 12 Sep 1944, aboard the LCIL-809 During the first several weeks of 1945 LCI(G)-809 transited the Pacific Ocean, by way of Pearl Harbor, arriving at Purvis Bay, Solomon Islands, in mid-February. She then began preparations for the Okinawa Invasion, during which she provided bombardment support, as well as patrol and escort services, from the beginning of April until the campaign's conclusion in June. At the end of April, while engaged in these duties, she was further redesignated LCI(M)-809. After Japan surrendered in early September 1945, LCI(M)-809 took part in occupation work. She returned to the United States in late 1945 or early 1946. Boarding Date: 11 Dec 1945, aboard the Medea (AKA-31) Transfer Date: 26 Feb 1946, aboard the Medea (AKA-31) to San Pedro for discharge. | ||||
