Notes: George was also known as George J Rath or George John Rath.
George J and Sena Bertram married in Herman, Minnesota, in 1914.
See their wedding photo below at the left. Two sons were born in Minnesota.
The young family lived and worked there until 1920. |
The family then moved to the family farm in Peach Orchard Township, Ford
County, Illinois, where three daughters were born. In 1927 daughter
Roselyn died in the flu epidemic.
The family lived and farmed in Illinois until 1929.
By 1929 George and Sena had enough of the severe weather in Illinois, and were
encouraged by Sena’s sisters Tillie (Matilda) and Hannah to join their
families in Petaluma, California. When George and his family arrived in
Petaluma, they lived with Tillie and Hannah and their families for a short time
in one house until all the families found their own homes.
Sena died in 1939 in Petaluma, and George J remained in Petaluma until he moved to Napa,
California, after his retirement in 1965 to be closer to his youngest daughter, Shirley.
