Notes: Joseph Zuker (1836 - 1924) and his wife Fannie Yetley (1850 - 1905) came to Kansas to
homestead in 1868.
In the 1875 Kansas State census, Joseph Zuker, 38, and F.E., 24, both born in Pennsylvania,
are enumerated living in Center Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Their five children, all born in
Kansas, ranged in age from 6 years to 6 months. Joseph was a farmer with his real
property worth $1,600.
In the 1880 U.S. census, Center Twp., Joseph, 44, farmer, and Fannie E., 30, are enumerated
with all of their children. These were Charlotta, 11, G.W., 9, G. W., 8, all attending
school; and M.N., 6, Ella M., 5, C.E., 4, and N.A. 2. Also living with the family
were two of Joseph's brothers, C.L. Zuker, 40, and Frank Zuker, 26, both farmers.
The family moved north into Garfield Township, where they are found in the 1885 Kansas State
census and thereafter. The 1902 County Land Ownership Atlas shows Jos. Zuker as owner
of 160 acres of land identified as the NW¼ of Sec. 25, Garfield Twp., Ottawa County,
and 80 acres identified as the W½ SW¼ of Sec. 24.
Fannie died in 1905 and Joseph died in 1924, They are buried together in the
Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Ottawa, Kansas. |
