Notes: In the 1895 Kansas State census, A. J. Zucker, 22, born in Kansas, and his wife Minnie, 23,
born in Canada, were living in Garfield Twp. Ottawa County, Kansas. Their Post Office was
Minneapolis. Andrew was a farmer. Living with the family, probably as a hired hand,
was Joseph Stauffer, 22, born in Kansas.
In the 1900 U.S. census, Andrew, 28, and Minnie, 29, had been married eight years, and had
no children. In the 1905 Kansas State census, A. J., 32, and Minnie, 33, had a daughter
Thelma, 3, born in Kansas. In the 1910 U.S. census, Andrew, 37, was described as a general
farmer, farming on his own account. Minnie, 38, had immigrated to the United States in
1880. Thelma, 8, was attending school. In the 1915 Kansas State census, the family is
difficult to locate, as the census taker spelled their surname "Yuker".
In the 1920 U.S. census, Andrew, 47, Minnie, 48, and Thelma, 18, are still living on the same
farm. Thelma married Alva Bremerman in 1924. In the 1925 Kansas State census, Andrew
J., 52, and Minnie A., 53, had living with them Merry Davis, 75, [
Mary Detwiller Davis], Minnie's aunt.
In the 1930 U.S. census, the household consisted of Andrew, 57, Minnie, 60, Mary Davis, 82,
and James Bremerman, age 22, a hired hand, and brother
of Alva Bremerman. Mary Davis died 6 Feb 1931, and Minnie Zuker died 9 Jul 1934.
In 1935, Andrew married Mable Bowman. In the 1940 U.S. census, Andrew 67, and Mable, 65,
were living in Garfield Twp. Ottawa, probably in the same house. The monthly rental was $5.
Andrew was farming on his own account. |
