Notes: This is the home that Mabel's parents, Hans and Mary Olson, bought for Mabel
and Thomas. The house was built in 1913, and was 2,490 Sq. ft. on a 7,264 Sq. ft.
lot. By 1923 Mabel and Thomas, and sons Fredrick and Clifford, were living
here. A son Eugene was born about 1923, but died in infancy. A fourth son
was born in 1926. In the 1930 census, Mabel, Thomas and the three living sons were
all listed here.
Mabel died at home in 1934, and Mary Staheli Olson, Mabel's mother came to live
with the family to take care of the youngest son. Mary died in December 1936,
and in 1937, only Thomas and son Clifford were living here.
Thomas remarried in June 1937, and brought his new wife Bertha Hunt into the
house. When he died in 1940, Bertha kept the house, causing hard feelings
in the Olson family. On behalf of Bertha, one of the sons explains that she
used her savings to pay back taxes to save the house from foreclosure, and also used
her funds to restore and remodel the house. |
