Notes: When Thomas married Bertha Hunt in June 1937, he brought her into the home that
his first wife's parents, Hans and Mary Olson, had bought
for them and their sons. In the 1940 USA census, Thomas, Bertha, and the two
youngest sons from their first marriages, both age 15, were living in the home.
Thomas died 8 Dec 1940, and Bertha remained in the house. This was always a
sore point for the Olson family. However, on behalf of Bertha, she used her
own savings to pay back taxes to save the house from foreclosure, and also used her
own funds to restore and remodel the house. |
