Notes: Moving farther west, John Detwiller, 50, and his wife Selina, 48, were living in the
Glenwood/Hayfield area of Brandon, Manitoba in 1901. In the 1901 Canada census,
John was the census taker for his district. The children were Chas, 25,
Emma J., 18. John W., 17, James C., 15, Frank, 12, and Eva M., 8. Also in the
family was grandson John H. Stewart, 5, the son of Minnie Etta who had died.
Their farm was on Sec. 23, Twp. 8, Range 20, W 1st Meridian, and John and sons
Charles and John were identified as farmers.
In the 1906 Canada census of Manitoba, John Detwiller*, 56, and Selina, 53, were still
located on the same farm. They had had 17 horses, 12 milk cows, 96 other cattle,
and 30 pigs. The children still at home included Emma, 24, John William, 22,
James G., 20, Franklin, 17, and Eva Myrtle, 13. Also living in the household
John H. Stewart, 10, their grandson, and Margaret C. Brown, 24, a servant.
Margaret married John William in 1907.
In the 1911 Canada census, John Detwiller, 61, and Selina, 59, were still on the
same farm. Their children at home included Emma J., 29, James C., 25,
Frank, 22, and Eva Myrtle, 18. Their grandson John A. Stewart was now 15. |
