Notes: In 1905, Astor Strome came west from Manitoba to Englefeld, Saskatchewan, and
filed on a homestead on Sec. 32, Twp. 37, Range 19, W2. In 1906, he moved
his family to the homestead. This included his wife Julia, and sons Wilford
and Harvey. Their daughter Myrtle was left with her grandparents in Manitoba
for some time to attend school.
In the 1911 Canada census, Humbolt Twp., Saskatchewan, the family is enumerated on
Sec. 32, Twp. 37, Range 19, W2. It included Astor Strome, 32, farmer, born Nov
1878, his wife Julia Maude, 30, Jun 1881, and their children Myrtle May, 11, born May
1900, Wilford Roy, 7, born Sep 1903, Harvey Melvin, 6, born Jul 1904, Bertha Irene, 1,
born Jun 1909, and Eva Minerva, 4 months, born Feb 11. Bertha and Minerva had
been born in Saskatchewan.
In the 1916 Saskatchewan census, Humbolt Twp., their farm is identified as being
in St. Peters Municipality. The family included Astor Strome, 39, his wife
Maud, 35, and children Myrtle, 18, Wilford, 13, Harvey, 11, Bertha, 7, Eva, 5, Nelson,
3, and Frank, 1. The family is identified as Methodist.
In the 1921 Canada census, Saskatchewan, Humbolt Twp., St. Peters Municipality, the
family included Astor Strome, 45, his wife Maud, 40, and children Myrtle, 21, Wilford,
18, Bertha, 11, Eva, 10, Nelson, 8, Frank, 6, and Winnie, 4. Harvey had left
the home.
Two more children, Dorothy and James, were born in the ensuing years. According
to A History of Englefeld, 1903 - 1987, the family
homestead was located at Greenside, and the children attended the Greenside School.
