Notes: In the 1930 U.S. census, Samuel C. "Bergsen", 25, and his wife Florence M. "Bergsen",
26, both born in Kansas, were living in Logan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. They had married at ages
21 and 22, respectively. Samuel was a general farmer. They were renting, and had a radio
set. Living with the family was Gertie Smith, 20, born in Kansas, and a public school
teacher. Gertie was the sister of Florence.
In the 1940 U.S. census, rural Logan Twp., Ottawa County, Samuel C. Bergsten, 35, and Florence M.
Bergsten, 36, owned their residence, valued at $800. Samuel was farming on his own account, and
both had completed four years of high school. Their son Lester D. Bergsten, 9, born in
Kansas, had completed 4th grade. |
