Notes: In the 1930 U.S. census, Ira B. Rochon, 26, and his wife Violet I. Rochon, 24, were living
at 2330 Orleans St., Bellingham, Whatcom, Washington. Ira, born in Nebraska, was a mule driver in
the coal mines. Violet had been born in Michigan. They had two daughters. Doris E.
Rochon, 1 10/12, born in Canada and Betty J. Rochon, 5 months, born in Washington.
In the next ten years, the family had several Bellingham addresses. These included 2121 Woburn (1931),
2813 E. Alderwood (1932), 2737 Woburn (19350, 2109 Alabama (1938), and 1121 15th (1939). Ira worked
for the Bellingham Coal Mines, and his job description was variously switchman, switcher, and miner.
In the 1940 U.S. census, the family was living at 1310 McKenzie Road, Bellingham. Ira, 37, was a tunnel
worker in the mines, and had completed 7th grade. Violet, 33, had completed one year of high school.
Their daughters were Doris Eva, 11, 5th grade; Betty Jean, 10, 4th grade; Messia K., 8, 3rd grade; and
Constance O., 7, 2nd grade. |
