Notes: In the 1900 U.S. census, David Findlay, 35, born Aug 1864 in Utah, and his wife
Elizabeth Findlay, 33, born Sep 1866 in Idaho, were living in Panaca Twp., Lincoln, Nevada.
David was a farm laborer. He and Elizabeth had married 27 Aug 1890, in Pioche, Lincoln,
Nevada. Elizabeth had had
six children, four of whom were then living. The children were Allen, 9, born Mar 1891,
Reed, 6, born May 1894, Albert, 4, born Nov 1895, and Lena, 2, born Jul 1897. Allen
was attending school, and all had been born in Nevada. The two children who had died
early were Rena, 27 Aug 1892 to 27 Feb 1893, and Marion, 22 Dec 1898 to 26 Jan 1899.
They share a headstone in the Panaca Memorial Park, Panaca, Lincoln, Nevada.
The family was living in the household of his mother, Jessie (Janet Ireland) Findlay, 70, born Dec 1829
in Scotland. Jessie, a widow, owned the house free of mortgage. Jessie and her husband Allan
M. Findlay, who predeceased her 11 Feb 1891, were handcart pioneers.
Jessie died 27 Aug 1901. Both are buried in the Panaca Memorial Park;
their headstones are pictured at left.
Also in the household was their daughter, Janette Findlay, 30, born Oct 1869 in Utah. Janette, single,
was a school teacher.
In the 1910 U.S. census, Panaca, David I. Findlay, 45, was a farmer, working his truck farm on his own
account. His wife Elizabeth, 42, had had seven children, only three children now living. These
were Allen M., 19, a farm laborer, Reed E., 15, and Albert H., 14. Lena Irene had died 28 Sep 1908, and
Nellie May, born 20 Sep 1903, died 27 Sep 1903. They share a headstone in
Panaca Memorial Park.
In the 1920 U.S. census, Panaca, David I Findley, 55, and his wife Elizabeth, 52, were still farming, and the
home was owned free of mortgage. Allen M., 28, and Albert H., 24, were farm laborers working on the
home farm. Albert had married Fay [Walker], 19, born in Nevada. They had a son, Clifford O., 6
months.
David I. Findlay died 4 Sep 1929, and is buried in the Panaca Memorial Park. In the 1930 U.S. census,
Panaca, Elizabeth Findlay, 62, widowed, was now head of the household. Her son Allen, 39 and single,
was a farm laborer. Their home was valued at $500. and they did not have a radio set.
In the 1940 U.S. census, Panaca, Mary E. Findlay, 73, was still sharing the farm home located on H Street,
valued at $700., with her son Allen M., 49, a farmer. Mary had completed eighth grade. Allen
had completed one year of college.
