Notes: According to family sources, James Edward Cole was born 18 Jan 1860 in Nephi, Juab, Utah.
His parents were William Cole and Elizabeth Sarah Jenkins. Sarah Frances Mangum was born 1 Jan 1868 in Nephi,
Juab, Utah. Her parents were Cyrus Franklin Mangum and Sarah Allen. James and Sarah were married
about 1885, in Utah.
In the 1900 U.S. census, James E. Cole, 40, born Jan 1860, and his wife Sarah F. Cole, 32, born Jan 1868, were
living in Nephi, Juab, Utah. James was a sheepherder, and they had been married 13 or 15 years.
(The census record shows the number 15 was written over by the number 13. However, their oldest child
was 14.) Sarah had had six children, all of whom were then living. These were Hazel D. Cole, 14,
born Jan 1886; Earl James Cole, 12, born Dec 1887; Allen R. Cole, 8, born Jul 1891; Edgar R. Cole, 7, born
Mar 1893; Thelma S. Cole, 5, born May 1895; and Frank F. Cole, 2, born Dec 1898. The oldest four children
were in school.
In the 1910 U.S. census, James E. Cole, 50, and his wife Sarah, 40, were listed on South Square Street, Nephi.
They had been married 25 years, and had six children, all then living. James was a sheepherder, an employer
with corral; Sarah was keeping house. They owned their house free of mortgage. Their five children
at home were Earl, 21, a clerk in a confectionary store, Roy, 19, Edgar, 16, Thelma, 14, and Frank, 12.
In the 1920 U.S. census, Nephi, James E. Cole, 62, and his wife Sarah F., 54, owned a farm with a mortgage.
James was a general farmer, working on his own account and Sarah was a housekeeper at home. Living at home
were their sons Edgar, 26, and Frank, 22, both farm laborers. Also in the household was their granddaughter,
Enid Beagley, 6.
James died 18 Nov 1926, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. He was buried 21 Nov 1926 in the Nephi City
Cemetery, Nephi, Juab, Utah. Sarah died 30 Jun 1939, and is buried next to her husband. |
