Melissa Miner Thompson James Albert Thompson, Sr.
Notes:  According to family sources, James Albert Thompson was born 12 Sep 1872 in Senecaville, Guernsey, Ohio.  His parents were David McGowen Thompson and Eliza Jane Wyscarver.  Melissa Miner was born 30 Sep 1883 in Springville, Utah, Utah.  Her parents were Don Carlos Smith Miner and Delilah Davis.  James A. Thompson, 37, and Melissa Miner, 30, were married 9 Dec 1913 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.  They had a family of three children.

Their first daughter Gladys was born 23 Mar 1915 in Springville, Utah, Utah.  At the time, James was listed as a carpenter.  Their second daughter Avis was born 27 Sep 1916 in Springville.

In the 1920 U.S. census, James A. Thompson, 47, and his wife Melissa Thompson, 37, were renting a home at 144 West Utah Ave., Payson Ward 2, Utah, Utah.  James was a carpenter, working on his own account.  Their children were Gladys, 5, and Avis 3.  Their son James Albert, Jr., was born 30 Dec 1920 in Springville.

In the 1930 U.S. census, James A. Thompson, 58, and his wife Melissa Thompson, 47, were living at 157 on 2 South, Springville, Utah, Utah.  They were renting for $16. a month, and they had a radio set.  James was a contractor in road construction, working on his own account.  Their children were Gladys, 15, Avis, 13, and James A., Jr., 9, all attending school.

James Albert Thompson died 19 Jun 1934 at 1480 So. Main St., Springville Ward 2, Utah.  Cause of death was cerebral apoplexy.  He was buried 23 Jun 1934 in the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Melissa Thompson, 26, was living at 894 So. Main, Springville Ward 2.  She owned the house and was a seamstress working for the WPA.  She had completed four years of high school.  Her son James A. Thompson, 19, had completed 3 years of high school and was a laborer.  The census includes another family renting at the same address.

Melissa was a member of the Camp Aaron Johnson D.U.P., a member of the LDS Church and active in the Relief Society.  She moved to Salt Lake City in 1950, where she is listed at 60 W N Temple, apt 5, in 1956.  She died of a heart ailment on 21 Oct 1963 in a rest home in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She is buried with her husband in the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah.
