Notes:  Heber Lorenzo Magleby was born 7 Jul 1874 in Milton, Morgan, Utah.  He was the youngest of 13 children of Hans Olsen Magleby and Eliza Marthine Svendasdatter.  His family moved to Monroe, Sevier, Utah in 1875.

Heber applied for a U.S. Passport in Feb 1900.  At that time he listed his occupation as blacksmith.  He was a student at at Brigham Young Academy at Provo, Utah, and became a member of the 1900 South America Expedition, during which he kept a diary.  The expedition was launched by professors and students from Brigham Young Academy and Snow Academy in an effort to validate Book of Mormon historical claims through archaelogical discovery.  The expedition left Provo, Utah on 17 Apr 1900, returning on 7 Feb 1902.

Effie Maria Sorenson was born 21 Mar 1879 in Washington, Washington, Utah.  She was the fifth of 11 children of Andrew Sorenson and Amanda Lucinda Pace.  Effie M. Sorenson, 24, married Heber L. Magleby, 28, on 23 Jun 1903 in the St. George L.D.S. Temple, St. George, Washington, Utah.  They had a family of eight children and made their home in Monroe, Sevier, Utah.

Heber owned and managed the Monroe Furniture Store.  Effie made hats to sell.  Their first three children were born in Monroe — Loleta Leta, Jul 1904, LaPreal, Nov 1908 and Heber, Jun 1908, who died the day of birth.  In December 1908, the family left for Mexico, where Heber was the Superintendant of the Utah-Mexican Rubber Company in Tabasco, Mexico.  Their son Andrew Romoldo was born there in Feb 1910.  The family returned 29 Apr 1912 aboard the S.S. Disa, sailing from Frontera, Mexico to Galveston, Texas.

Upon their return Heber bought a farm southest of Monroe.  Three more children were born in Monroe — Frank LeGrande, Oct 1912, Villyar R., Feb 1918 and Zola Amanda, Dec 1918.  In Sep 1918 when Heber registered for the World War I draft he listed himself as a farmer.  He was described as tall, of stout build with blue eyes and light hair.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Heber L. Magleby, 44, and his wife Effie M. Magleby, 40, were living on their farm, 1st West Street Mount Town, Monroe, Sevier, Utah.  They owned the farm free of mortgage.  Their children were Leta, 15, LaPreal, 14, Andrew R., 10, Frank L., 7, Villyar, 3, and Zola A., 1.   The oldest four attended school.

Their last daughter MacVoy was born 22 Jan 1922 in Monroe.  Their son Andrew Romoldo died 30 Aug 1922 at the age of 12 of erysipela of the face, with pneumonia and sepsis contributing factors.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Heber L. Magleby, 55, and his wife Effie Magleby, 51, were living in Monroe, Sevier, Utah.  They owned their farm, valued at $1,200. and did not have a radio set.  Heber was a general farmer.  Their children at home included LaPreal, 24,a teacher in the district school; LaGrand, 17, a news carrier for the daily paper; V.R., 14; Zola A., 11; and McVoy, 8.  The youngest four were attending school.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Heber L. Magleby, 66, and his wife Effie M. Magleby, 61, were living in Monroe, Sevier, Utah, in the same residence as in 1935.  They owned their farm valued at $1,500.  Their children at home were Zola A., 20, who had completed 4 years of high school, and MacVoy, who had completed three years of high school.

Heber was active in the L.D.S. church, serving as a High Priest and in the Monroe South Ward Bishopric.  He served as a ward clerk, as superintendant of the M.I.A., as a Sunday school teacher, and as a missionary.  He also served two terms on the Monroe City council.  Effie served as organist in the Monroe South Ward, president of the YWMIA, as a Sunday school teacher, as a counselor in the Relief Society, and as a missionary.  She was a Red Cross worker, and was vice-president of Monroe Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and vice-president of the Monroe Literose Club.

Effie S. Magleby, Heber L. Magleby Heber Lorenzo Magleby, 66, died 15 Jan 1941 at his home in Monroe following a heart attack.  Services were held Sunday, 19 Jan 1941 in the Monroe South L.D.S. ward chapel.  He was buried in the Monroe Cemetery, Monroe, Utah.

After the death of her husband, Effie moved to Provo for four years, where she worked as a cook; then to Salt Lake City, for a year of temple work.  She retired to Richfield in 1944.  Effie Sorenson Magleby, 68, died 26 Jul 1947 in Richfield, Sevier, Utah.  Cause of death was a coronary thrombosis.  She was buried 29 Jul 1947 alongside her husband in the Monroe Cemetery.
