Notes: According to Family Search, Frank Neukam was
born 7 Oct 1888 in Neckar, Wuerttemberg, Germany. Supposedly his parents were Balthasar Neukam
and Maria Anna Diemer. His place of birth as Germany appears only in this source, and
the Idaho Select Marriages. All other sources, including
census, military and death records, list Ashford, Maine as his place of birth. According to Family Search, Retta May West was born 15 May 1896 in Goodland, Kansas. Her parents were Cornelius West and Lydia Ann Miller. Frank Neukam and Retta May West were married 25 Aug 1915 in Twin Falls, Twin Falls, Idaho. They had a family of seven children. Frank registered for the World War I draft on 5 Jun 1917. He was described as being of medium build, with gray eyes and brown hair. He is listed as a natural born citizen, Maine, and was self employed as a farmer in Roseworth, Idaho. He and his wife had one child, Roy Cornelius, born in May 1918, Twin Falls, Idaho. Lillian Anna was born in March 1918 in Roseworth, Idaho, and Jean Marie was born in Dec 1919 in Rogerson, Idaho. In the 1920 U.S. Census, Frank Neukan, 32, and his wife Retta Mae Neukam, 23, were living in Berger, Twin Falls, Idaho. They were renting and Frank was a farmer, farming on his own account. Their children were Roy C., 3, Lillian A., 1, and Jean M., 1 month. Wilford Frank was born in Jul 1921 in Montello, Elko, Nevada; Buster Edward in Nov 1921 in Rogerson, Twin Falls, Idaho; and Richard Jay in August 1927 in Rogerson. Richard Jay died 30 Jan 1928 and is buried in the Twin Falls Cemetery, Twin Falls, Idaho. In the 1930 U.S. census, Frank Neukam, 41, and his wife Retta M. Neuka, 33, were living in Rogerson, Twin Falls, Idaho. They owned their own own home. Frank was employed as a mechanic in an auto repair shop. Their children were Roy, C., 13, Lillian A., 12, Jean M., 10, Wilford F., 8, and Buster E., 6. All of the children were attending school. Verla Faye was born in Feb 1937. In the 1940 U.S. census, Frank Neukam, 51, and his wife Retta M. Neukam, 43, were living in Elko, Nevada. They were renting their home for $8. a month. Frank had completed 4 years of high school, and was a machinist in the mining industry. Retta had completed 7 years of school. The children at home were Jean M., 2 years of high school, working as a cafe waitress; Wilford F., 18, 2 years of high school, a mine pumpman; Buster E., 16, 8 years of school, a mine laborer; Freda M., 5, and Verla, 3. Enumerated next [door] was their son Roy C. Neukam, 23, 2 years of high school, a miner; and his wife Lola Neukam, 22, 8 years of school. Retta May died 22 Apr 1941 in the Twin Falls General Hospital, Twin Falls, Twin Falls, Idaho. Cause of death was 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns sustained over her entire body while cleaning clothes with gasoline the day before. She was buried in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Twin Falls, Twin Falls, Idaho on 25 Apr 1941. At the time of her death, the family was living in Jarbidge, Elko, Nevada. When Frank Neukam registered for the World War II draft on 17 Apr 1942, the family was living at 819 Valley Road, Reno, Nevada. His daughter Lillian had married Otto Jones, and the couple was living in the same residence. Frank was employed by Krieger Oil Co. at a gas station located at 790 W. 4th, Reno. His son Buster E. Neukam was employed as a driver for AL&JZ Co. Frank Neukam died 5 Mar 1966 in Pioche, Lincoln, Nevada.
