Notes: Ann Jane Detwiller, known as Annie, was born 4 Jan 1873 in Fullarton Twp., Perth, Ontario. She was the eighth of thirteen children of Alexander Detwiller and Elizabeth Parker. In 1881, she was living with her family in the Fullarton Township, Lot 31, Conc. EM.
Annie's siblings included Rebecca, born in 1860, Marion, 1862, Christopher, 1863,
Elizabeth, 1865, John, 1867, Alexander, 1870, William, 1875, James, 1876, and
Isabella, 1878. Bertha, born in 1869, died as an infant, and Christopher
died in 1876. By 1885, the family was complete, with the addition of
Innis, 1883, and Robert, 1885. In 1890, Annie immigrated to the United States, along with her older sister Marion, younger brother James Gavin, and younger sister Isabella. In the 1900 U.S. census, they are living at 114 Eighth Street in Jamestown, Chautaugua, New York. Annie was listed as a nurse, as was Marion. It is presumed that Annie graduated from the W.C.A. Training School of Nursing in Jamestown, as had Marion. W.C.A. stands for Women's Christian Association and the nursing school was founded in 1890 in Jamestown, New York. They would have been among the first graduates of the school. The 1901 - 1902 Jamestown City Directory recorded Anna J. Detwiller as a nurse living with Marion and other siblings, including Elizabeth, Isabelle, and Robert at 114 West Eighth, Jamestown. The 1903-1904 directory has no listing for her. Annie married David (Dave) Harvey on 14 Jun 1910, place unknown. In the 1911 Canada census, they were living at 371 Pritwood in Winnipeg City, Manitoba. Annie's sister Elizabeth Wilson, now a widow, was living with them. Dave was a contractor. They had two sons, namely William David born in 1912, and Robert Hamilton in 1913. Annie is seen at the left with William, her first son, in 1912. By the 1916 Manitoba census, Annie and Dave were living at 1129 Sask Ave in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Annie's sister Elizabeth was still living with them, and her mother Elizabeth Detwiller, was living with them. Dave was a farmer. The family moved to British Columbia. In the 1921 Canada census, Annie and Dave were living on Amelia Street, Village of Sidney, on the North Saanich Peninsula. Dave was still farming, and their sons were 9 and 7 years old respectively. Annie died 5 Dec 1945 in Sidney, British Columbia. According to family reports, Dave died in 1951. Both are buried in Royal Oak Burial Park, Victoria, British Columbia. | Time of Birth} | Time of Death} | Fraternal/Social}
