In the 1871 Canada census, Fullarton Twp., Alexander and Elizabeth had six
children, namely
Rebecca Dunn, born in 1860, Marion, 1862, Christopher, 1863, Elizabeth, 1865,
John, 1867, and Alexander, 1870. A daughter Bertha had died as an infant
in 1869, and Christopher was to die in 1876. By the 1881 Canada census,
Fullarton Twp., four more children had been added to the family, namely Annie,
born in 1873, William, 1875, James, 1876, and Isabella, 1878. By 1885,
the family was complete, with the addition of Innis, born in 1883, and Robert, 1885.
Alexander suffered from a liver disease for three years, and died
17 Sep 1887 of a kidney abscess. He is buried in the
Avonbank Presbyterian Cemetery, Downie Twp., Perth, Ontario. After the death
of her husband, Elizabeth moved into the town of Mitchell, Perth South. In the
1891 Canada census, she was living with four of her children, Marion, Isabella, Innis and
Robert, in Mitchell. Marion was a dressmaker. By the 1901 Canada
census, at age 62, Elizabeth was living alone.
In the 1916 Manitoba census, at age 77, Elizabeth was living with her daughter
Annie and husband David Harvey in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. David was a
farmer and they had two children, William age 4 and Robert age 2 years.
Also living with the family was Elizabeth Wilson, another daughter of Elizabeth,
who was also now widowed. In the photograph at right, Elizabeth is shown with
four of her sons, Will, Robert, Gavin and Innis. Elizabeth died 14 Jun 1917
in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She is buried with her husband and two
of their young children in the Avonbank Presbyterian Cemetery.
