Notes:  Greta Mary Beach was born on 3 Jan 1870 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  Her parents were Alexander Lyman Beach and Sarah Jane Bonham.  Her name was sometimes reported as Greta M. or Mary Greta.  She was the third of seven children.  In the 1880 U.S. census, when she was 6 years old, the family was living in East Orange Twp., Sioux County, Iowa.  Her father was a Representative to the Iowa General Assembly No. 18, representing District 70.  He was a Republican, and served from 12 Jan 1880 to 8 Jan 1882.  In the 1900 U.S. census, the family was living in Sioux City, Woodbury County, and her father was in the hardware business.

According to unpublished family manuscripts (cited in Source 1376) Greta was a piano and voice teacher from 1894 to 1899 in Alton, Sioux County, Iowa.  From 1901 to 1903, she was a music teacher at the Congregational Academy, Hull, Sioux County.  She married William George Detwiller (Will) on 20 Jun 1904 in her family's home in Sioux City, Iowa.  Will was the principal at the Webster School.

Greta and Will had two children born in Sioux City.  These were an unnamed child, and Muriel Greta, born in 1908, who died in 1909.  Their daughter Elizabeth Jane was born in Hood River, Oregon in 1910, and Eloise Alberta was born in Skamania County, Washington in 1914.  Will was the principal of the high school at Stevenson.

The family moved to Canada.  In the 1921 Canada census, the family was living in Wood Creek, Last Mountain, Saskatchewan.  Will was a farm worker, working for his brothers on their farms.  The family returned to the United States.

In the 1930 U.S. census, the family was living in Seattle, Washington.  Will was a salesman of stocks and bonds.

Greta died 7 Oct 1931 of sudden heart failure.  She is buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Seattle, Washington.
