Notes: William George Detwiller (Will) married Greta Mary Beach on
20 Jun 1904 in Sioux City, Woodbury, Iowa. The marriage
took place at the home of the bride's parents, 1101 Douglas Street.
They were married by the Rev. Dr. F. Newhall White. Abbie Beach,
sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid. The couple left to spend
the summer in Jamestown, New York, visiting the groom's relatives. |
The couple had four children. An unnamed child was born/died before Jan 1908.
Muriel Greta was born 29 Oct 1908 in Sioux City. She died in 1909, and is buried in the
Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City. The couple moved west. Elizabeth Jane was
born 13 Jul 1910 in Hood River, Oregon. Eloise Alberta was born 20 Mar 1914 in
Skamania, Washington. The family is seen at left in 1916.
Will and Greta moved back to Canada. In the 1921 Canada census, they were
living in Wood Creek, Last Mountain, Saskatchewan. He was listed as a
farm worker. The Imperial Review
reports that Will worked for his brothers on their farms, and also worked as an
accountant for Omer Etter. The family returned to the United States.
In the 1930 U.S. census, Will and Greta were living in Seattle, King County,
Washington. Will was a salesman of stocks and bonds. Elizabeth was
a stenographer. According to family records, Greta died 7 Oct 1931,
in Seattle, Washington, and is buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Seattle,
Washington. Will went on to marry again, to Dorothy Snyder.
He died 8 Feb 1955 in Seattle, Washington. His place of burial is unknown.
