Notes: Utahna* May Metcalf was born 18 May 1910 in Mapleton, Utah, Utah. She was the
third child of Levi Gregory Metcalf and Lucy Deseret Warren. Although the family was living in
the Springville area of Utah, her birth certificate lists her parents' residence as Burney, Idaho.
Her father Levi Gregory was a contractor for the railroad. Her brother Levi Warren had been
born in 1905, and brother Max Frank in 1907, both in Mapleton. Utahna's family moved to Idaho, where brother Harris Blaine was born in 1913, sister Melissa Jane in 1916, and sister Claris Hazel in 1919. In the 1920 U.S. census, Utahna's family was living in Richfield, Lincoln, Idaho. Her father Levi was a farmer, both an employer and working on his own account. They were renting. The children were Warren L., 14, Frank, M., 12, Utahna M. 9, Harris B., 6, Jane W., 3, and Clarice 1. The older three were attending school. Utahna's brother Samuel Frant was born in 1921, and brother Paul Gregory in 1922. The family then moved to Southern California, where her sister Lois Helen was born in 1923, and brother Monte Eugene in 1927. The Redlands, California, City Directory, 1925 lists L.G.and Lucy Metcalf at 25 Terracina Blvd., Redlands. L.G. was listed as a rancher. In the 1930 U.S. census, after some time in Utah and California, Utahna's family was again living on a farm in Richfield, Lincoln, Idaho. Her father Lee was a general farmer working on his own account. They were renting and did not own a radio set. The children were Max F., 21, a farm laborer; Utahna M., 18, Blaine H., 15, Clarice, 11, Grant S., 9, all attending school; and Gregory P., 7, Helen L., 6, Monte E., 3, and Maxine, 1. Utahna May Metcalf, 22, married Leo Felix, 23, in the LDS Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah on 17 Nov 1932. In the 1940 U.S. census, Utahna and Leo were living at 727 South East Fourth, Springville, Utah, Utah. They owned their residence, valued at $5,000. It was the same house as in 1935. Her husband Leo was a janitor for the high school. Utahna had completed two years of high school. They had two children, L. Lavar, 6, attending school, and Geniel, 2. Later, Raymond, Jan and Glade would be added to the family. The recipe for Grandma Utahna Felix's English Toffee has been posted on-line by grandchildren for future generations to enjoy. Utahna died 26 Mar 1989 in Payson, Utah, Utah. She was buried 30 Mar 1989 in the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah. * Utahna's birth certificate lists her name as Lucy May Metcalf, but from early on she was called Utahna May. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
