Notes: John and Helen were married about 1848, as calculated by the ages
of their children. In 1851, they had two boys, namely James, age 2, and
John, age 5 months. John was a journeyman cabinet maker. The family
lived at 31 Water Lane in South Leith, Midlothian County, Scotland.
In 1861, John and Helen were living at 2 Glover Street in South Leith.
Their first two sons are not listed in the census. James may have gone to America.
[See Source 1467]. John may have
died young. They now have four children, namely Ellen, age 7, Andrew, age 5,
Alexander, age 3, and Janet, age 1.
By 1871 it is presumed that John had died, because he is not listed in the census
with his wife and the four children. Helen and the children are living at 3
Catherine Street, in the civil parish of Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian.
They have two boarders living with them. |
