Notes: Devon Arthur, 24, and Delna Stewart, 21, were married on 8 May 1935 in Parowan,
Iron, Utah. Delna recounts in one of her writings that she and Dee "drove to Parowan at
noon hour and were married in the musty old courthouse by a one-legged judge".
They were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on August 11, 1984. In the 1940 U.S. census, Dee and Delna were living on North 1st East street, Cedar City, Iron, Utah. Dee was a grocery clerk for a retail grocery store. They were renting their home for $23. per month. Their daughter Carol Lee was 4 years old. Their second daughter Jean was born at a later date. In Jul 1940, after having been a grocery clerk for several years, Dee built and opened his own grocery store on the corner of Second West and Center streets in Cedar City. It was called the Center Grocery Store. Delna helped her husband run it for 27 years. Dee and Delna were both active in community affairs. He was active in Cedar City Lodge No. 1556, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Cedar City Junior Chamber of Commerce. Delna was also active in the community, including the Jaycee-Ettes, and the Elks Ladies, serving as president of the latter organization in 1940. She was also a leader in her daughters' 4-H Club. Dee and Delna moved to Southern California in 1964, where Delna taught elementary school for 13 years. Their retirement home was in Laguna Hills. They returned to Cedar City in 1993. Delna died 22 Dec 1994 in St. George, Washington, Utah. Henry Dee Arthur died 13 Mar 2001 at the Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City, Utah.Both are buried in the Cedar City Cemetery, Cedar City, Iron, Utah. | ||||||||||||||||||
