- "Cedar Boy Held On Open Charge"
"In yesterday's issue of the Salt Lake Tribune mention is made
of an accident in which Dee Arthur, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arthur of this city is involved
and is held by the police on open charge pending investigation.
According to the Tribune, Dee was driving south on State
when a man by the name of Chegrenis jumped in the path of Dee's car, being knocked
down and receiving a fractured skull.
The newspaper reports that Chegrenis is in a serious
condition."

- "Youth Cleared in Probe of Mishap"
"Following investigation by deputy sheriffs,
Dee Arthur, 19, of 234 East South street. Friday was
released from custody. Arthur was being held pending the outcome of the
investigation of a automobile accident Thursday night at Twenty-seventh South and
State streets.
George Chegrenis, 35, of 131 Fifth East street, was
injured when struck by Arthur's automobile. Arthur advised deputies
that the man came out from behind a parked automobile into the path of his
machine. Chief Traffic Deputy Karl Riedheim reported that the youth's
version of the accident apparently was correct. The condition of
Chegrenis was reported to be fair at the Salt Lake General hospital Friday."

"Mrs. Clara Stewart, returned from a
10-day visit to Calif. She made the trip with her son,
Duane, wife and family of Provo. They spent 1 day in Los Angeles where
Marcia's brother was being married to a Los Angeles girl. They visited the
Vandenberg Missile Base, Lompoc,
with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith (
Florence Stewart) and family - where they saw one of the largest missiles
ever fired. It was real frightening to be so close, hear the countdown and
experience all the noise and tremor of so large a missle being fired, Clara
says. They spent three days with son Don and Elizabeth in Hawthorne, then
on to Long Beach to see Mr. and Mrs. Gil Caldwell
(Jean Stewart) and family; then on to LaHabra to visit
with Mr. and Mrs. Dee Arthur (Delna)
who is teaching school in the Orange School District. They also
visited two granddaughters who are married and have families, Carol Lee Miller
of Orange and Pat Pate Fox and family of Torrence."

This was the beginning of an article written by Delna Arthur and published in
The Los Angeles Times. Delna, a retired elementary school teacher in
Laguna Hills, California, was remembering the death of Jana Phelps of Orange in 1977, and
the inspiration her young student gave.
