Obituary: Leo Felix

Leo Felix, age 92 of Springville, passed away Oct. 3, 2001. He was born in Hinckley, UT on
May 23, 1909 to Jacob and Permelia Greener Felix. He moved with his family at age 10 to
Springville where he resided the rest of his life.
Leo was active in Boy Scouting for most of his life. In 1923 he was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Springville, and
later served as scoutmaster for many years to dozens of boys. He later received the Silver Beaver Award.
He graduated from Springville High School in 1927 and was involved in the band as a trombone player, ran distance races for
the track team and excelled in industrial education classes. He later served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints in Austria-Germany. Upon returning from his mission he married Utahna Metcalf
in 1932 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died in March of 1989.
Leo was employed in his early married life as custodian at the high school, later at the Geneva Steel plants at Ironton and Orem,
and retired in 1974 after working over 23 years for Springville City as building inspector and operator of the electrical
sub-station near Kelly's Grove in Hobble Creek Canyon. Later he was custodian at the high school seminary until 1981.
He was also an excellent carpenter having constructed many homes in the Springville area.
He was an active member of the LDS Church. As well as his service in the Boy Scouting program, he served as Bishop's
counselor and on the Kolob Stake High Council for over 25 years.
Leo is survived by two sisters, LaZell Druce, of Orem and Ilene Johnson, of Salt Lake City and by his five
children: LaVar (Carolyn) Felix, Geniel (Don) Larsen, and Raymond Felix, all of Springville; Jan (Becky) Felix of Lehi,
Glade (Cathy) Felix of Lake Park, Georgia; 28 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Mon. Oct. 8, 2001 in the 1st and 7th ward LDS Chapel, 850 S. 400 E., Springville,
Utah. Friends may call at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. in Springville on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 6-8 p.m. and at the chapel
one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the Art City Nursing & Rehab Center for the good care they gave to Leo in the remaining several
months of his life.
