Newspapers.com. The Los Angeles Times (Los Angeles, California), Wed, Jan 5, 1899, p. 5, col. 5. Impressive Services Held By the Elks The funeral of Dion Heberling Romandy, the noted violinist, who died in this city on the third inst., of typhoid pneumonia, was held at 1:30 o'clock today under the auspices of the Elks. Services were held at their hall on South Main street. Vocal music was first rendered by the Euterpian Quartette, followed by part of the Elk's ritual, which is a very solemn and beautiful service. Julius P. Witmark, who is this week playing at the Orpheum, then sang "Charity." The quartette rendered another selection, after which the ritual was finished. An elegy was delivered by the Rev. Burt Estees Howard. Frank Cooper of the Herald staff was the Elks' chaplain. Mr. J. Brenner was the organist. Nearly fifty musicians, all volunteers from the Musicians' Union, composed the orchestra for the occasion. After the Elk's ceremony, the march to Alhambra was begun, the Elks going as far as Macy and Alameda streets, at which place they stopped and returned home. The family and personal friends of the deceased went on to Alhambra and the remains were taken to the family residence, where a musical program was rendered. The funeral cortege then went to the cemetery in Alhambra, where the body was interred. | ||||
