Services Sunday for Pete Miller Funeral services for the local business leader was set for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (yesterday) at Pierce Brothers Chapel in Alhambra where Pete had pioneered his successful paint business. Officiating at the service was Rev. James Glyer, assistant pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Alhambra. Rev. Ivan Konkoly, Congragational Church pastor, will officiate at the Memorial Service in the Congregational Church Miller, 68, had built five flourishing paint stores in Southern California, with the help of his three sons, Bob, now of Sacramento, Alfred of La Canada, and Wilfred of Arcadia. Pete and Evelyn Miller moved to Hesperia in 1958, residing in a home that had been built by local developers. In 1961 Pete opened his Hesperia store in the newly completed Hesperia Square. The Millers moved back to "our town" shortly after he opened the facility, which he later moved to its present location on Main Street near 6th. Pete demonstrated keen interest in the development of Hesperia, and participated in as a director of the chamber of commerce. Mr. Miller suffered a cardiac condition early Thursday morning, and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment. He rallied for a time, but succumbed on Sunday. Pete claimed Perth Amboy as his birthplace. He also married Evelyn in the New Jersey community. The beloved Hesperian left his 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. |
