Notes: Thomas and Mary Anne bought this property and owned it free of a mortgage.
Classified as a farm, it was located 3.3 miles NNE of the center of Corning.
Thomas and Mary Anne were probably attracted to California and the Corning area
by dramatic
promotional advertising for land in the "Maywood Colony", near Corning.
From 1900 and 1917 Thomas invested in and owned the following four pieces of Maywood
Colony No. 20 land — which were about 3½ miles South of their River Road
property:
- Block 181 Lot 3, consisting of 10 acres
- Block 178 Lot 8 East ½, consisting of 5.81 acres
- Block 178 Lot 8 West ½, consisting of 5 acres
- Block 178 Lot 2 East ½, consisting of 5 acres
Thomas and Mary Anne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary here in Corning
on 6 Mar 1916. Click on newspaper for a

But by the time of their party Thomas and Mary Anne had already decided to
buy property in Granada (Source 768), California
(their son Frank already lived there).
They sold the last of their Maywood Colony investment properties on 12 Feb 1917
(Source 493). |
