Notes: Good Cot was a cottge and farm that was the English home of several generations of
Hancocks. [The name Good Cot is sometimes spelled with no space (Goodcot)
and sometimes with two "t" (Goodcott).] I don't know who owned the property or
which Hancock family members first arrived there. However, we know that Agnes Carter
(Hancock) resided there when she died at age 66 in 1814 — so she and her husband, Robert
Hancock (#1) could have resided there since their marriage in 1771 or earlier. Listed
below are ten (10) other individuals who resided there at least once between 1816 and 1849.
Good Cot was located in the Ashreigney village and parish of Devon, England.
Ashreigney, or Ring's Ash, was 4 miles W. by S. of Chulmleigh, and contained
5,586 acres of fertile land. |
