| Notes: Robert Hancock was born in 1754, probably in Ashreigney, Devon, England. This was
during the reign of King George II; and he passed on during the reign of George III.
Georgian England during those years was predominately a rural, agrarian society largely
dependent on horses. Steam-powered railroads and passenger ships did not yet exist. Marriage Banns were posted 11 Aug 1771, and Robert married Agnes Carter on 30 Sep 1771 in St. James Church, Ashreigney, Devon. Beginning in 1772 through 1785, their eight children were all baptised in this church. Robert was a yeoman, or a man holding and cultivating a small landed estate; a freeholder. Robert died about 13 Jun 1808, and was buried 15 Jun 1808 in the St. James Churchyard, Ashreigney, Devon England. Robert's estate was valued at £600 on 20 Aug 1808, £400 of which was divided between his five daughters and the residue was left to his widow Agnes.
