Notes:  Hans Olsen and Mary Staheli probably met at the Friday night dances held on the second floor of the Hamiln home in Santa Clara, Washington, Utah.  He evidently "swept her off her feet."  They were married on 11 Apr 1875 by Marius Ensign in Santa Clara.

Hans and Mary moved to Jack Rabbit, Nevada where Josephine was born in 1876 and Ida in 1877.  By the 1880 U.S. census, Hans Olsen, 48, and Mary, 24, were living in Spring Valley, Lincoln, Nevada.  Hans was a farmer.  They had three children:  Josephine, 4, Ida, 2, and Henry J., 4 months, born in Spring Valley.  The family moved to Jackson County, Oregon, where George was born in 1882.  They finally settled in Alhambra California, where Frank was born in 1885, Lillian in 1887, and Mabel in 1889.

In the 1900 U.S. census, Hans Olson, 67, and Mary, 44, were living at the family residence at 336 North Wilson Avenue, Alhambra, Los Angeles, California.  Hans was listed as a farmer.  Their children were Josephine, 23, Ida, 22, Henry, 20, George, 17, Frank, 15, Lillie, 12, and Mabel, 10.  Their beloved daughter Josie, by then a teacher, died in May 1902.

Hans Olson family Hans Olson family Hans Olson family By the 1910 U.S. census, the last of their children had grown and married, and Hans, 77, and Mary, 54, were living alone in the family's residence at 316 Wilson, Alhambra.  Hans was listed as having his own income.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Hans, 87, and Mary, 64, were now sharing the family residence with daughter, Mabel Ferrell, 30, and her husband Thomas Ferrell, 34.  Thomas was a shoemaker working on his own account.  The two grandsons were Frederick B., 9, and Clifford E., 5.

Hans died 23 Jan 1921 and Mary died 7 Dec 1936.  They are buried in the San Gabriel Cemetery, San Gabriel, California.
